BMI Resource Recovery is a Queensland-based business established in 1988, specialising in property development and waste management solutions. They focus on recycling, waste transfer stations, and landfill activities in South-East Queensland communities. The company is a key industry leader in driving growth in the circular economy for the recycling industry.  Resource Recovery activities are undertaken at all sites, however we operate two Resource Recovery plants that focus on the recovery of various materials, including concrete, bricks, masonry, asphalt, green waste, timber, soils, metals, e-waste, and plasterboard from a mixed waste stream.

The waste is separated at our facilities for further reprocessing or collected by specialist recycling partners. More than 90% of the waste delivered to BMI's Resource Recovery sites is recycled and reused. BMI’s concrete crushing plants play a crucial role in producing a range of recycled road base products used in building, landscaping, and civil construction.

BMI is dedicated to sustainable practices and continuously strives for improvements in waste recovery, recycling, and reuse.

BMI is committed to ongoing investment to improve resource recovery conversions and continues to develop our sites that support the expansion of our current waste stream offerings. We are constantly expanding our operations by implementing state-of the-art waste sorting technology and improving our concrete crushing operations.

Rino Recycling was established in 2021 by Queensland Recycling Technologies (QRT), a joint venture between Alceon Qld and real estate and private equity investor DCP, through the purchase of recycling business assets from an existing company based in Eagle Farm.

That purchase provided Rino with all the existing recycling components, and a significant footprint to service the Brisbane market with two commercial waste recycling transfer stations at Pinkenba – Rino headquarters – and a river sand quarry at Waterford.

In 2022 Rino Recycling set their sights on transforming the existing facilities into a fully integrated, wholly automated plant, combining the operations of the existing Eagle Farm Road and Main Beach Road sites. Rino partnered with industry experts Turmec (Ireland) and CDE (Northern Ireland) to design, build and install the hybrid plant.  Investing in best-in-class technology to automate the recycling process and remove the requirement for manual handling of materials, and combining both wet and dry waste processing has resulted in a state-of-the-art recycling and resource recovery processing plant right on the doorstep of Brisbane’s CBD.

In April 2023, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation pledged $75 million in debt financing for our cutting-edge plant, to help boost Australia’s recycling sector and expand onshore recycling capabilities.

To fulfil every opportunity and meet every client’s need, Rino has initiated a huge five-year plan that involves a significant, multi-million dollar capital investment in people, technology and plant, with plant upgrades alone dramatically improving ethical standards, environmental sustainability and all aspects of job and site safety. Big moves that will improve the quality of recovered products for re-sale, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and future-proof Rino well into the century.
